What I'm Wearing

Tonight is the first event for the Altitude Summit in Salt Lake City! I'm very excited to sit down to dinner with Better Homes and Gardens! Nervous too. At the very least, I thought I'd make sure that I'm dressed appropriately.

Apparently, from what I've read, fashion is huge at Alt. I'll preface this by saying that I'm no fashionista and I'm not one to make a statement either. In addition to that, I'm tired and pregnant ( I feel like spending much money on maternity clothing is a waste).  Let's just say that I'm just ridiculously pleased to have a few days where I'm out of my traditional uniform of jeans and a t-shirt. I'm also pleased that I was actually able to find something in my closet to wear that isn't just jeans and a t-shirt. So, If it's alright with everyone, I'll just try to look nice and let my protruding belly be my statement piece.

I thought I'd do one of those cool fashion photo shoots to show off my fashion for Alt. Well, I'm not a great photographer or designer. Plus, there's nothing terribly exotic about the clothing. So, it didn't turn out nearly as cool as I had envisioned. Oh well, I'm still weirdly proud of what I've pulled together.

Felt Circle Belt

My mid-section has been expanding on a daily basis. Therefore, I've been breaking out my most comfortable maternity clothes. I purchased a simple, black maternity dress online and discovered that instead of it looking cute and flattering (flattering maternity clothes, do those really exists?) it looked more like a black muu muu or...tent.  Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean that you would wear utterly shapeless clothing, right?
I ran across this cute tutorial for a diy belt on Kollabora.  I didn't have any vinyl on hand, so I decided to take a softer approach and use felt. That said, vinyl will give this project a more polished finish.

I needed approx. 1/4 yard of felt for this project as well as some coordinating grosgrain ribbon and thread. If you are cutting circles in fabric, I highly recommend the Olfa rotary circle cutter. Almost every circle I cut came out perfect. I don't think I could have cut 40 circles without it.

So after following the tutorial and some sewing later, I had a belt to cinch me in and give my dress a little shape. I like actually looking pregnant.

I'm not sure I'm in love with the bright red on black, so I might revisit and make it over again in another color. What do you think?

No more muu muu for me.

Project: Sew Skirt

I found a great tutorial on MADE recently. In fact, all of Dana's tutorials are fantastic.  Anyway, I usually have a ton of fabric laying around, so I decided I needed to sew my daughter a skirt.  I took her measurements and pulled out some fabric. Then I proceeded to do absolutely nothing else for two months.  Fast forward to today.  I buckled down and sewed my daughter a skirt! I'm saying that I actually created clothing for my child to wear and it was really easy! If I can do it, anyone can.

I'm pretty proud of the end result. Not only does it look cute, but it actually fits! Jellybean liked it enough that she wanted to try it on the minute I sewed the last stitch.  She's pretty particular about what she wears, so it was a huge compliment.

The t-shirt doesn't match it perfectly and I didn't brush her hair, but she is still adorable.  I have a vision of creating a t-shirt to match it, but that may be another two months down the line.

 Buddy had to get in on the photo shoot action in his new Target pirate outfit.

Going Green

We went green for St Patty's Day this last week! I realized on Thursday that none of us had a scrap of green in our closets. I began to have elementary school related anxiety about my children being pinched by others more zealous in their holiday celebrations. So, we headed out to the store to remedy the situation. Then on the day, we held an impromptu photo session. D agreed to be the photographer despite his exasperated sighs. I had to bribe the children to stand still. I don't know why Buddy has a spoon, but hey, it's green, so who am I to complain.

Yep, that's one great spoon.

Apparently, Daddy is doing something that is both funny and disturbing.

Anything to keep from looking at the camera and smiling. Here you can see a hint of the orange leggings my little fashionista chose to go with her denim skirt and green shirt.

Look at that handsome kid! This photo was captured a split second before he pulled a face.
