Simple Air Plant Terrarium and Mantel

I've been working on putting some decorative touches into our new home.  For a while now, we've had a blank glass coffee table that I just couldn't decide what to do with.  I saw an air plant terrarium for sale recently that really inspired me.  The terrarium for sale was too rich for my blood, but I thought I could pull something together that had a similar feel.  So, this is what I came up with.
Any lantern would do, but I really liked the look of this lantern that I purchased from a local boutique. I threw in some decorative rocks and spent some time picking out a cute little air plant to put inside.
I learned from the garden store that the grayer the air plant is, the more light it requires.  The one I chose is darker green and should need bright, indirect light. The fun thing about the air plant is that it doesn't require soil. This little one will need to be dunked in water a couple of times a week and that's it.

I've also been working on the mantel in this room.  I added a few things to it in the last week as well.
If you are wondering what was going on in the corner of the room I didn't include in the above pictures...
Yeah, that's what was happening there.

Friday Finds: Little Boy Decor

I've been searching for some art for my son's new room. The good news is that he is incredibly easy to buy for. In fact, it was hard to narrow down my options. He is extremely interested in the following:

1. The alphabet
2. The alphabet
3. Clocks
4. Superheros (specifically Spiderman, but also Captain America)
5. "Spooky things"
6. Star Wars

When it comes to Superheros and ABC's, there is a ton of great stuff out there. Since, he already owns 2 alphabet art prints, I was unsure of whether I should add another. So of course I found three that I loved: A Superhero Alphabet, a Star Wars alphabet and a Muppet Alphabet. In the end, I just had to go with the Muppets. I felt that it was a little more well done than the other two. I'm pretty sure he'll love it and well...I love it. Plus, maybe it will expand his interests a bit.
I also found this Super Heroic Minimalism print that I think he'll enjoy and will hopefully grow with him.
He is covered on clocks. He owns three clocks (that actually work and are on his walls) including this Grandfather Clock decal in green. He also owns several more clocks that are scattered throughout the house.

I plan to add some Star Wars prints as he gets older, nothing really struck me as I was looking, but I imagine something Yoda-themed is in his future.

Color Inspiration

It's just over 4 weeks until we can move into our new place. That leaves me with a lot of time to contemplate how I plan to make the space my own.

Today I ran across this great website called Design Seeds. If you haven't been to it you should really check it out. It is the perfect place to gather color inspiration. Each post is comprised of a beautiful picture broken out into a color palette.

Here are a few of my favorites. You'll be able to tell right away that I'm crazy about neutrals. I like the look of one of these for our new front room:

and my favorite:

These two look perfect for our master bedroom.
