Welcome to my No Shampoo update page. I'm trying to keep an update on my progress in going "no poo." Here's more about why: What Have I done to my hair?!
Week 3-5:
Not a ton to report. I have continued to use the baking soda/water mixture to wash my hair. It still works great. The only change I've made is eliminating the apple cider vinegar rinse. I HATED the smell and really, it didn't seem to do much. I've gone back to using a small amount of organic conditioner once a week. That seems to be all that is necessary. On my off days, when I'm not washing my hair, it seems that the greasiness has normalized. It doesn't begin to feel greasy until I've gone two full days without washing it. That is how it felt when I was using the expensive shampoos, but now my hair feels lighter. I went in for a hair cut a couple of weeks ago. It was weird how heavy my hair felt after they used the salon shampoo and conditioner on it. It was the first time that I wanted to get right home and wash my hair after a cut.
Still not great difference in my skin, though any acne I had on my scalp has virtually disappeared. I'm happy about that.
Week 2:
I'm still pretty impressed by how clean the baking soda gets my hair. On the the days that I don't regularly wash my hair it seems a tad more greasy. On those days, the dry shampoo gives a little lift. Overall, my hair feels really soft and clean. I haven't noticed any measurable difference in my skin. It's no worse though, so that's good. I've been making an effort to clean my hair brushes regularly.
Week 1:
Things went well this week. I'm more satisfied with the baking soda and
vinegar solutions that I thought I'd be. I'm wondering why I ever
bought expensive shampoos. My hair feels lighter than it has in a while
and while it is a bit flatter on the days I don't wash it, it feels
smooth and not greasy to the touch.
A couple of observations: Using
the baking soda solution on my scalp feels like I'm using nothing, but
gets my hair surprisingly squeaky clean. The apple cider vinegar
definitely has a strong odor. The smell only fades once my hair is
completely dry.
